1. What is The Mourning Space?

The Mourning Space is an online, anonymous sadness and grief drop-in. It is a guided half-hour where you are invited to be with your feelings of sadness without distraction, judgment, or pressure to share.

2. Is this therapy or counselling?

Accepted Answer

No. The Mourning Space is not therapy. It does not replace therapy, counselling, or medical support. It is a safe guided practice where you can observe your feelings and learn gentle tools for being with sadness.

3. Do I have to share my story or talk in front of others?

Accepted Answer

No. You do not have to speak, share, or interact with anyone. This is an anonymous space. You are only here to experience your own process, guided by the facilitator.

4. Is there a chat function or group conversation?

No. There are no chats and no group discussion. This is intentional. Many people distract themselves by talking when feelings arise. The Mourning Space is about being present with yourself and your sadness without distraction.

5. Who is this for?

This is for anyone who:
-Struggles to be with their sadness alone.
-Tends to avoid or push away their feelings.
-Feels they exhaust others when they talk about their sadness.
-Wants a safe, short, structured time to sit with their emotions.

6. What if I feel overwhelmed during the session?

You are free to pause, turn off your camera (if on), or leave at any time. The session is gentle and guided, but you are always in charge of your own comfort.

7. What if I realize I want to talk to someone after?

That is welcome and encouraged. The Mourning Space is a starting place, not an endpoint. After the session, if you feel the need to talk, we encourage you to reach out to a safe family member, friend, priest, therapist, or counsellor.  We will be adding more resources as we continue.

8. How long is each session?

Each session is 30 minutes total. This is long enough to be meaningful, but short enough to feel safe and doable for people who struggle with sitting in sadness.

9. What happens during the 30 minutes?

The session has five parts:
Welcome,  Explanation of the space, Gently Going into It,  Emotional Intelligence Tools, Closing

10. Do I need any special equipment?

Accepted Answer

No. You only need a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed for 30 minutes. Some people like to bring a journal, tissues, or a comforting object (like a blanket, candle, or pillow).

11. Can I attend more than once?

Yes. Each session is a standalone drop-in, but attending regularly can help you build comfort and skill in being with your emotions.

That is up to you.  The Mourning Space is an anonymous , FREE, online, drop-in.  If you find  it helpful, donations of any amount are welcomed so we can continue to help others.  Let's pay it forward in gratitude together so we can help each other.

13. What if I don’t feel sadness during the session?

That’s okay. Sometimes nothing comes up — and that is part of the process. The Mourning Space is about creating a container for whatever is present, whether it is sadness, numbness, or even peace.   Sometimes opening the door allows something to come up later.  It's okay.

14. Why is it called The Mourning Space?

Accepted Answer

Because it gives you time to mourn, reflect, and be with grief in a way that is safe, simple, and held. Mourning doesn’t always require words — it requires presence.
