The Language and Art of the Fan
By Southeast Mercantile Cooperative
Overview
Practicality and Romance.
We are all familiar with the cooling properties of a fan. But for some reason most of us don't carry one during the hot months, instead using random magazines and other items when we need to cool off. But there was a time when a fan was not just a practical necessity, but was also a fashion statement and means of communicating silent messages.
This workshop begins with a presentation by Colleen Pappas on the history and language of the fan in the 19th century. This will be followed by a workshop with Nancy Gaines where you will make and decorate your own fan.
Limit of 10 participants. $40 per person.
