About this event

Arts • Fine Art

Supported through Black Mountain Institute’s Community Partnership, Matthew Clark Davison, co-author (with Alice LaPlante) of The Lab: Experiments in Writing Across Genre, will lead a free writing public workshop (co-run with Charlie Joy) for writers of all levels.

The workshop invites participants of all backgrounds and experience levels to explore how raw obsession can be transformed into art. Through guided prompts, short bursts of writing, and discussion, attendees will experiment with techniques that balance beauty and darkness, disrupt reader expectations, and render emotion with "aesthetic force."

Rooted in Davison's (and his co-author's) lifelong commitment to accessibility and inclusion, The Lab centers Queer, BIPOC, and women writers - both celebrated and emerging - as core models for craft and creative vision. Writers of all levels are welcome.

Free and open to the public, this workshop continues The Lab's mission to make writing a communal, transformative act that connects individual experience to the larger continuum of literary expression.

A complimentary copy of The Lab: Experiments in Writing Across Genre will be given to the first 15 registrants. Attendance is required to receive the book.

When: Sunday, October 26th, 2025, 6-9pmWhere: Codex @ The Writer’s Block (519 S 6th Street, Las Vegas)
