Dir. Paul Grimalt, 1980, 83m, French w/ Eng. Subtitles

A pompous, cross-eyed king is in love with a shepherdess in a painting. The two-dimensional beauty, however, desires the dashing young chimney sweep in the frame next door. The two seek to escape the dastardly clutches of the tyrant with the help of a brightly feathered mockingbird. A gorgeously surreal masterpiece of French animation, this traditionally hand drawn film was completed over a span of 30 years, and became a major influence for master animators Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata.

'ANIMATION CLUB' is an ongoing series that celebrates new and classic animated films from around the world! From studio titans to hidden indie gems; traditional 2D to stop-motion, 3D animation, experimental, and everything in-between!
