The Jaded Lovers Salon: A night of intimate music and readings
The Jaded Lovers Salon began in 2010 as a monthly residency in New York City.
Honeychild Coleman (The 1865) curated these gatherings in Williamsburg at Savalas, Trophy Bar, and Cakeshop in Manhattan.
Honeychild Coleman met Shosh Levi in a mosh pit at The Blüchunks matinee show at UC Berkeley. In the early aughts they crossed paths again in New York City under the conduction of the late Greg Tate with the Burnt Sugar Arkestra. In 2005 Coleman met Bay Area local Laura Hayati (A Million Miles Away) in NYC when her band The Bedouin Thieves and Apollo Heights (The Veldt) performed at Brian Tate’s Brooklyn New Music Festival . Together three powerful women present a sonic reunion of earnest soulful storytelling, classical atmospherics, haunting post punk, electronic and dub reggae.
This special La Peña salon features local guest Hayati (Oakland/NYC), and musician/poet Shosh Levi (Berkeley/NYC).
Coleman(NYC), who also briefly resided in the Bay Area, will be performing and reading from the BLACK PUNK NOW Anthology (by James Spooner & Chris L. Terry, Softskull Press/Penguin Books), Razorcake'zine and her novel-in-progress BLACK GIRL:BLUE HAIR.
