In Beth Henley's "The Jacksonian," the story revolves around a seedy motel in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1964, where a group of unhappy characters spiral into chaos and violence, including the night of a murder. The story unfolds through the eyes of Rosy Perch, a troubled teenager, as she navigates the dysfunctional lives of her father, Bill, a dentist who's become a motel resident, and the other inhabitants.
