Power Point discussions led by Prof. Santi Buscemi based on the following units:

UNIT IV: Singers Male— Enrico Caruso, Mario Lanza, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, and Frank Sinatra are featured in this series. But these men represent only the tip of a musical iceberg. Recalling that music from Naples and southern Italy contributed so much to the American songbook, discussing these gentlemen will provide an appreciation for the place of Italians in American music.

UNIT V: Singers Female—This unit features Morgana King, Connie Francis, Bernadette Peters, Madonna, and Lady Gaga. Like their male counterparts, these Italian American women added much to our country’s songbook. As a reminder, a list of other male and female Italian American singers will be provided for individual research.

UNIT VI: Musicians and Composers—Many of us have heard of Henry Mancini, the composer of so many wonderful film scores, and we also recall that larger-than-life Frank Zappa. But we need to go back to our roots and recall that Italy is the birthplace of music, and it gave America Arturo Toscanini, the magnificent symphonic conductor known the world over. Gian Carlo Menotti and Chuck Mangione are also covered in this unit.
