    Lisa Sewell was raised in California and educated at UC Berkeley, New York University and Tufts University. She is the author of The Way Out, Name Withheld, Long Corridor, which received the 2009 Keystone Chapbook award, Impossible Object, which won the 10th Gate Prize, Birds of North America, a collaboration with artist Susan Hagen and poet Nathalie Anderson and Flood Plain. She is also co-editor of several collections of essays on contemporary American poetry and poetics, including American Poets in the 21st Century: The New Poetics with Claudia Rankine, and American Women Poets in the 21st Century: Beyond Lyric and Language with Kazim Ali. She has received grants and awards from the Leeway Foundation and The National Endowment for the Arts, The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, The Massachusetts Cultural Council, and The Fine Arts Work Center at Provincetown and held residencies at The Arctic Circle, Yaddo, the MacDowell Colony, The Tyrone Guthrie Center, and The Sitka Center for Art and Ecology. Her poems have been widely published in journals such as The Paris Review, Ploughshares, Prairie Schooner, Harvard Review, Posit and has been featured on The Slowdown and the Academy of American Poets’ “Poem-a-Day.” She teaches at Villanova University and splits her time between Philadelphia and White Salmon, WA.
