The program will focus on the importance of the Rule of Law: current threats to democratic government in the United States, including the rise of authoritarianism, polarization, the spread of disinformation, electoral corruption, advocacy of violence toward political adversaries, and the politicization of independent institutions. It will also explore democracy's defense against these threats through efforts to uphold the rule of law, promote transparency and accountability, protect free and fair elections, counter disinformation and violence, and reinforce safeguards of democratic institutions.

The presenter, Sally Frank, is a Professor of Law at Drake University. There she teaches primarily in the legal clinic through which she and her students represent clients mostly in family law, domestic abuse, and guardianship cases. She also teaches seminars in Women and the Law and Women in the Hebrew Scriptures.

Sally is an activist on many peace, civil rights and civil liberties issues and regularly represents or works with protesters as a legal observer at actions. She has served on the boards of organizations dedicated to these issues. She is also very active in the Reform Jewish community and has served on boards affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism.

Everyone is welcome. A continental breakfast will be provided. The event is free, however a donation of your choosing ($5 is suggested) will be gratefully accepted.
