The Humboldt Park Stables: A Transition into the Future

As one of the anchor sites selected for the Chicago Architecture Biennial, The National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture represents the transition process from the Humboldt Park Stables to the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture. Having in mind the concept of “Make New History”, exhibit has been created according to the needs of our community and visitors, which is to highlight the historic landmark and architectural jewel that is the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture. At the same time, with its historical focus, it brings to light the history of the building and the migrating communities in the greater Humboldt Park area and their contributions into the neighborhood. The boundaries determined for this exhibit are North on Armitage Avenue, South on Grand Avenue, East on the Kennedy Expressway and West on Pulaski Road. The timeline displayed is the main component in this exhibit, which includes the transition of our building from the stables into the museum and the transitions in the neighborhood with the different communities that have belonged to our surroundings. This timeline focuses on some historic landmarks, monuments, churches, parishes or synagogues, schools and organizations.
