The Hidden Burden: Empowering Clients Facing Chronic Illness and Pain

Overview

Chronic illness and chronic pain greatly impact clients’ daily experience and mental health. This training will explore how mental health symptoms, such as depression and anxiety, are impacted by chronic medical conditions. We will discuss ways to address these concerns with clients while offering deep support and empowerment.

Objectives

• Increase understanding of impact of chronic medical conditions on mental health symptoms.
• Increase understanding of the relationship between trauma responses and chronic pain.
• Gain skills to address ongoing medical conditions while empowering clients.

Presenter

Angela Langenfeld is a Licensed Professional Counselor through the state of Wisconsin with a Specialty to Treat Substance Use Disorders. Angela completed her Master of Science in Community Counseling at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Angela is an Internal Family Systems (IFS) Informed therapist who has also trained in the Comprehensive Resource Model of treatment. Angela currently provides trauma responsive clinical supervision and therapy through Professional Services Group. Angela strives to cultivate and inspire a strengths based, trauma informed, and culturally responsive lens to case conceptualization.

Professional Services Group has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7066. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Professional Services Group is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
