Course Description:
Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming many aspects of mental health care, from chatbots and virtual therapy tools to predictive analytics. While AI cannot replace human clinicians, understanding its capabilities, limitations, and ethical considerations is essential for mental health professionals. This session will provide an overview of AI in mental health, including current tools available today, research findings, and potential future developments. Participants will explore the pros and cons of AI, gaining insight into both its benefits and the challenges it presents. The focus is on increasing awareness and knowledge, enabling participants to make informed observations and engage thoughtfully with AI in mental health contexts.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
1. Define AI, specifically generative AI, in the context of mental health.
2. Identify current applications of AI in mental health, including chatbots, virtual
therapy, mood tracking, and predictive analytics.
3. Analyze the benefits and limitations of AI tools for mental health care.
4. Recognize ethical, legal, and clinical considerations when integrating AI into
mental health practice.
5. Evaluate research evidence regarding the effectiveness and accuracy of AI in
supporting mental health.
6. Identify and discuss current AI tools, apps, and technologies being used in
mental health care, including their functions, applications, and potential impact on
clients and clinicians.
