Oh, and if you're curious about the crazy name for this event, read on...

Ever hear of the West State Normal Railroad? Neither did we. So the story goes: In 1908, a 150-step climb was the only thing between the Vine neighborhood and the Western State Normal School at the top of the hill (now, East Campus). Once the snow fell, students were not making it up the stairs to class. To no surprise, some brainy engineering students found a practical solution to this, and created....A FUNICULAR. Yes, really. They built a single, cable -hauled car & two-tracks to transport students up and down Davis Street to the summit of East & North Hall. The funicular ran from 1908-1949. Problem solved, kids.

What does this have to do with bikes? Nothing at all really. Except we think the story is cool, the word 'Funicular' is even cooler, and the incline experience on a bicycle is way more fun...well for us, anyway. Dust off your summer gear and take on the hill with us!
