THE EQUALITY ACT AND BEYOND: LGBTQ+ RIGHTS IN FOCUS
Overview
The path to legal and employment rights for LGBTQ+ people in the UK has not been smooth and few people appreciate that many of the older generations still at work today faced imprisonment, electric shock treatment and state sanctioned breakup of families in their formative years.
This webinar, delivered by Pride UK and Silver Star HR, explains the gradual change in social attitudes that led to the decriminalisation of homosexuality in the 1960’s, and the build of legal protections from 2,000 which culminated in LGBTQ+ people being recognised as protected under the Equality Act of 2010.
Over the course of this lunchtime learning participants will be equipped with a clear understanding of their HR responsibilities in preventing discrimination, promoting equality, and supporting compliance with statutory requirements to maintain a fair, respectful, and legally compliant workplace environment for all.
The webinar will cover:
· Decriminalisation of homosexuality in the UK
· Legal protections of LGBTQ+ people in the workplace
· Equality Act 2010 and conflict between protected characteristics
· Impact of the 2025 High Court ruling on rights of trans people at work
· Landmark employment tribunal rulings protecting LGBTQ+ inclusion at work
