Overview

3-part grantwriting intensive from Bronx Council on the Arts + PENN Creative: find funders, write winning proposals, build support!

BCA's Artist Sustainability Workshop Series (ASWS) returns with The Craft of Grantwriting For Artists, led by instructors from PENN Creative Strategy.

This three-part online grantwriting series, developed for BCA, offers a comprehensive and hands-on introduction to the full grant development cycle — from identifying funders to stewarding lasting relationships.

  • Session 1 (11/6) focuses on the early stages of the process: researching potential funders, understanding their priorities, and building authentic relationships before ever submitting a proposal
  • Session 2 (11/13) shifts to “making the case,” guiding participants through crafting compelling narratives, defining needs, demonstrating organizational strengths, developing measurable outcomes, and building clear budgets and supporting materials
  • Session 3 (11/20) explores letters of inquiry, proposal follow-up, and relationship stewardship — including how to communicate effectively with funders, manage grants once awarded, and build toward sustained support

Across all three sessions, participants engage in interactive exercises, real-world examples, and practical tools designed to demystify the grantwriting process and strengthen their capacity to secure and sustain funding.
