The Counseling Compact: Practicing Legally & Ethically Across State Lines

The Counseling Compact is anticipated to become operational by the end of August 2025. This 3 CE hour program for professional counselors will:

1. Provide you with an understanding about how interjurisdictional practice really works
2. Explain just what the Counseling Compact is and how it functions
3. Outline the steps for becoming an approved Counseling Compact counselor

Through the Counseling Compact qualified professional counselors in more than 37 Compact Member States will be able to legally practice to and from other Compact Member States. The Counseling Compact is poised to create a landmark change in the Professional Counseling landscape. Further, its impact will be felt in the other mental health professions by greatly increasing professional counselors' ability to serve clients across the country.

If you own a private practice or manage services at an organization/agency you need to be knowledgeable about the Counseling Compact and understand how it works. Importantly, if you have a specialty practice or work for an organization that serves special populations the Counseling Compact can allow you to provide your services to clients in most states across the country.

Over the past several years I have observed that there are more than a few misunderstandings, misconceptions, and myths (some of which are quite pernicious) surrounding practice across state lines and interstate compacts. This has left many therapists confused and frustrated. This program will provide reliable information, sources, and helpful tools that will help you cut through the confusion.

Speaker:

Terry Casey, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist, HSP (TN #1975) has conducted over 200 webinars, seminars, and presentations on a variety of topics (e.g., teletherapy, interjurisdictional practice, interstate compacts, advanced ethical & legal issues; ethics & legal issues with minors, ethical & legal issues in private practice) for counseling and mental health professionals.* Since 2008 he has taught Ethical, Legal, and Professional Issues in a CACREP-accredited M.S. program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. He also served as the Clinical Director for a large counseling and psychological services organization based in Nashville for 17 years. Additionally, Dr. Casey was the Chair of the Ethics Committee for a state-level professional association. Dr. Casey operates a consulting practice near Nashville, Tennessee through which he serves private practices and counseling/mental health-related organizations. Continuing education credits:

This seminar provides 3.0 NBCC CE hours. Continuing education requirements of the various licensing boards for different mental health professions in different states can change without notice. Always check your state's licensing rules to be sure about your current CE requirements.

This seminar provides 3.0 CE hours (3.0 NBCC hours) through Renaissance Counseling & Psychological Specialists (RCPS) (NBCC 7457).

CE quiz and course evaluation:

One to two days before the webcast a link and password for the course evaluation/CE quiz will be emailed to the attendee's email address that was provided during registration. The password will remain active for at least 30 days after the day of the event. After this time you may need to obtain a new password by contacting Rencounselingtn@gmail.com.

Will this event be recorded?

Possibly. However, please be aware that if this webcast is recorded it will be used solely to create a separate home-study version of this program. Registration for the live webcast on August 22, 2025, does not provide access to a recording of the webcast. A recorded home-study CE program from the January 2025 live webcast of this same title is currently available (contact Rencounselingtn@gmail.com).

How will I obtain my CE certificate?

To receive a CE certificate attendees must complete the online course evaluation & CE quiz. (A link & password will be sent for this. See above.) A passing score on the 14/20 quiz items. CE certificates may be downloaded immediately upon completing the quiz with a passing score. The quiz may be retaken if needed.

What is the refund policy?

Refunds are available up to 48 hours before the starting time for the event. Registrants seeking a refund must submit a refund request through this registration site at least 48 hours before the event start time.
