We’re back for year two of The Big Table curated by The Columbus Foundation — and this time, Zora’s House is honored to host alongside our community partners: Columbus City Councilmember Lourdes Barroso De Padilla’s Office and Motherful.
This year’s conversation will center on mothering as a radical practice — beyond biology and tradition — and explore how policy, power, and community shape the parenting experiences of women+ of color and gender-expansive people of color.
Why this conversation?
The inspiration began when Councilmember Barroso De Padilla joined Motherful and Queens Village for a panel on mothering in immigrant communities. Together, we began imagining: What could it look like to better support mothers of color — including nontraditional paths of mothering — and dismantle the systemic barriers they face?
What to expect:
We’re creating an intimate space for generative, action-oriented dialogue. Through small group conversations, we’ll hold space for honesty, healing, and visioning.
Our hope for this Big Table: to not only share stories, but to spark action — planting seeds for how we might build coalitions, shift policy, and reimagine mothering as a powerful force for change.
