Basement Theatrics invites you to a table reading of The Auditioneers by Colin Prato, presented as part of our Ground UP Series—a space for writers to hear their work aloud, collaborate with actors, and take creative risks.
SYNOPSIS
Young actors show up in droves to the open call audition when a prestigious New York play by the burgeoning creative duo of playwright Sarah Motz and director Melissa Stone comes to debut in its written location: Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Three of the hopefuls are a group of recent theater school grads. Their friendship complicates as they manage their career plans and anticipate the results of the big audition. For both the New Yorkers and the New Englanders, we see how ambition and vulnerability interact in the extremely personal and competitive space that is theater. For some - the openness strengthens relationships. Others are driven apart.

THE PLAYWRIGHT
Colin Prato is an actor and comedian originally from the great state of Maine. He’s beyond thrilled to share his first-ever original play with Basement Theatrics at the historic HB Studio. Colin has been acting in New York City for about four years and credits HB Studio as a life-changing artistic home. Most recently, he studied playwriting there with the acclaimed playwright José Rivera. The Auditioneers is a personal piece inspired by Colin’s time in New Hampshire—the state where he attended college—and the world of theater auditions.
THE GROUND UP SERIES
New work. From the ground up.
Basement Theatrics’ Ground UP Series spotlights new plays, musicals, and works-in-progress at all stages of development. Whether it’s a first table read or a developmental presentation, this series centers the process—not the polish. We invite audiences to witness the earliest sparks of creation and join us in supporting bold, risk-taking voices as they build something from scratch.
