FAQ’s:

What is Embodiment, Sound Baths, and Somatic Movement?

If you’ve never been to a sound bath, I invite you to imagine yourself in a spacious room with a facilitator (me) playing instruments while you sit or lay on a mat. In this case I’ll be playing my 7 quartz singing bowls and they have the potential for creating relaxation and a feeling of harmony. These instruments ring at a frequency that affects your brainwaves and this can be calming and nourishing or it can stir unfinished movement which is trauma that needs to be awakened and worked through in order to reach relaxation. That’s where the somatic practices come in. I’ll be inviting somatic movement practices from a mindful embodiment method called Chi For Two®. This method acknowledges that we pattern our nervous system functioning in our earliest dances as infants with our parents. Somatic is relating to your body. In the book ‘The Body Keeps the Score’, we learn that the body holds onto trauma. So, how do we move it out? Somatic Movement. A somatic practice might look like a sway, or vocalization with your voice. If you find yourself getting stirred up in class, I am there to catch any big feelings and help you invite movements to help move that energy out of your body. That’s when true relaxation and harmony is created. That is embodiment.

What is Vocal Toning? In vocal toning we intentional use our voices to help move out trapped energy in the body. I will invite you to mouth consonants, or hold out long vowels. I will invite you to play around with your voice and see what wants to come up if anything at all.

What is Somatic Movement? Somatic is relating to your body. In the book ‘The Body Keeps the Score’, we learn that the body holds onto trauma. So, how do we move it out? Somatic Movement. I’ll be inviting movements to help bring awareness in your body. My teachings are based off of trauma healing method called Chi For Two®- This method is approved by ISMETA (International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association). My invitations will be based on what I see in each individual in class.

What is a Sound bath?

A sound bath consists of instruments that have the potential for healing. In this case, my 7 crystal quartz singing bowls. I invite you to imagine that you are being bathed in sound frequencies. They ring at a frequency that changes your brain waves. These instruments ring at a frequency that helps to slow down your brain waves. In most cases, it invites deep relaxation and helps clear stuck energy. As a trauma informed practitioner, I am aware that we as human beings are born with fighting rhythms and sucking rhythms which means that these sounds may also stir anger or sadness inside of you. That’s why you’ll have person like me there to help you catch any big feelings that may arise. The somatic practices will come in to help you move out any tension in your body or at least bring awareness to it.
