The Apothecarist Medicine Making Course
This is a remote 8-week long course that covers everything you need to know to set up your own herbal apothecary. All students will receive a medicine making kit with herbal materials to complete 12 herbal projects, while also learning about apothecary set-up, medicine making techniques and more!
Medicine Making Techniques and Demos Include:
- Tincturing and advanced flavoring for formulations
- Hot medicinal elixirs and teas
- Herbal tonics
- Botanical electuaries, oxymels and shrubs
- Herbal gummies and jellies
- Introduction to Multi-fractional extracts
- Hydrotherapy formulations for health
- Herbal Wound Care preparations for eyes, ears and wounds
- Balms and salves and ointments
- Foundations for lotion and cream making
- Botanical hair rinses
Apothecary Lectures include:
- How to set up your apothecary
- Equipment ‘must-haves’ and resources for supplies
- Apothecary record-keeping, Cottage Law and labeling guidelines
- Wildcrafting, bio-regional herbalism and stocking your apothecary locally
- How to work safely with more toxic herbs
- Using herbs in the field, in your community and in a clinical setting
- Apothecary Field Trips: learning options for building your own!
- Herbal sexual health
- Hydrosols and essential oils: working with them in your herbal practice
The 8 week long course begins August 11th with access to demos, lectures, charts and videos. All enrolled students are mailed Apothecarist Lab Kits, with the herbal materials needed to complete one full project each week. There is additional course work that students can customize based off their specific interest area to accumulate points to complete the course. There will be 3 scheduled live instructor Q&A sessions and optional guidance offline with instructors as needed.

Dates: This course begins on August 11th, 2025, with a live interactive session to be scheduled with students and instructors. All online materials are downloadable.
The online classroom will remain open for 4 weeks after the final week of class to allow ample time for completion of the course.
Location: You can participate in this course from anywhere you have an internet connection.
