Instructor Bio

Fermín Suárez (SAG/AFTRA), is an actor, director, videographer, editor, and animator.

Fermín came to New York after an intensive acting career in his native Dominican Republic. His USA credits as a theatrical actor include important companies like Spanish Repertory Theatre (NYC), Thalia Spanish Theatre (NYC), Teatro Circulo (NYC), Lathea Theatre (NYC), Quantum Theatre (Pittsburg), among others. He has participated in critical theatrical festivals, like: “The Spanish Golden Century Festival” (El Paso, Texas) and “Encuentro, Tres Continentes” (Canary Islands, Spain). He has received several nominations and awards like ACE, HOLA, ATI, and others.

He has appeared in TV shows like “America’s Most Wanted” on FOX (USA), the TV series “El Don” at Telemicro (DR), and others. He has done several Spanish dubbings for HBO, MTV, AUDIO GROUPS INC, and DIGIVIEW. Fermin is a co-founder of Canal America (1014 Optimum), the first and only HD Dominican TV channel in the USA. He also created two TV shows for the network: Fermin Suarez Lab, a video production tutorials weekly TV program, and La Chercha Con Fermin, a one-person comedy sketch show in which he played five characters. Fermin was the camera director in all life programs for the former TV network La Familia Cosmovision, which broadcasted nationally in the USA and Puerto Rico.

He also produced and hosted a weekly TV show for this network called Caras De Una Ciudad, a variety show with professional and street artists in NYC, plus documentaries about the city. Fermin has worked as a videographer, editor, and animator on many projects, including music videos, sports, live events, TV commercials, infomercials, etc. Los Cuentos, written, produced, and directed by Fermin, is a cinematic view of Dominican literature, two short films based on two short stories by Juan Bosch.

For these last nine years, Fermin has been the instructor for the field video production class for Bronxnet at the Lehman College facilities. Teaching more than 300 students the video production process, the proper use of a broadcast video camera, and how to edit their projects using Final Cut.
