About this event

Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) is the most common and MOST AGGRESIVE form of primary brain cancer. Globally, over 240,00 people die each year as a result of Brain or Nervous System Cancer, with GBM being the most common form of the disease. There is no cure for Glioblastoma and patients typically have a median survival rate of only 12 months.

In October 2021, Roland was diagnosed with stage 4 Glioblastoma. After a brave fight, we sadly lost Roland in December 2021. The Roland Card Memorial Foundation was established in April 2022 to preserve the memory and passion of Roland. His family and friends fondly recall spending time on the golf course with Roland (and in the TAVERN after!) and established the Foundation to create lasting memories & to help fight the disease that took Roland away from us to soon!

While Roland was going through his devasting diagnosis, he had a great team of doctors in Worcester at UMASS Memorial Hospital and in Boston at Dana Farber & Mass General. The doctors, nurses, and staff were wonderful to Roland. They treated him as a person with kindness and dignity. They checked up on him often, letting him know all his choices that he had and helping him through the hard decisions.

Roland loved soccer. In his younger years he coached & played soccer. He coached for over 10 years, starting with his daughter's teams. Even after his daughters were done playing, Roland still continued to help coach soccer. Roland recieved the Mass Youth Soccer Coach of the Year Award in 2004.

For these reasons and with your generous help, we would like to donate this years proceeds to the UMASS Cancer Center and a portion towards two College Scholarships for graduating High School Senior Soccer Players.
