THATCHED ROOF 2-Day Workshop

Explore Thatching ~ a beautiful, ecological & long-lasting roof system made of local reed grass!

• Sat: Tour enchanting on-site thatched structures at Strawbale Studio & experience hands-on thatching on a small indoor frame! Deanne will show a short demonstration of thatching, then as a group we will take apart, then RE-thatch a small frame in the Red Shed. You will be taught and then get to practice thatching technieques, and how to use the tools and materials! Below see photos of the Strawbale Studio, Kids Cottage, Wood Shelter onsite, and Kensington Metropark Kids Cottage.

• Sun: Identify, harvest & bundle reed from a local field. Bring the bundles back to the site and construct a "reed tipi" for long-term storage.. View/discuss British & Danish thatching videos.
