Texas Native Plant Propagation Workshop
Overview
SAVE THE DATE! Saturday, January 17th.
'Grow Native', right...? Well, how about growing your OWN natives?
NEW! Learn seed starting from the beginning from the experts. NHG welcomes our friends, members from the Dallas Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas for a very special afternoon learning how to propagate Texas natives by seed.
First, you'll get a complete overview of why natives - and why by seed - then, you'll breakout into small groups to experience FOUR hands-on workshops:
- Scarifying & Stratifying Seeds
- Direct-Sowing Methods
- Caring for Seedlings at Home
- Transplanting Timing & Methods
You'll be given a tray of seeding supplies, and you'll rotate among each of the presentations, learning firsthand how to propagate Texas native wildflowers and grasses from the ground up. In between, there's a break to grab a coffee from our Cafe and socialize. Then, you can take home your seeded containers to grow your own Texas natives! Afterward, there's plenty of time for your Q & A.
All this, and more in a brand-new, 2- hour + experience. Great for beginners just starting to seed: If you don't know what scarifying is, what hardening off means, or never even used a dibbler, this is your chance to learn. Plant the seed of native knowledge!
Attendance is limited to only 30 attendees in order to accomodate a high quality event of hands-on instruction. $20 per person. Note that all proceeds are only to cover workshop supplies, and support the Society in their mission.
THIS CLASS IS INDOORS IN OUR CLASSROOM.
We'll seed you there!
The Native Plant Society of Texas' mission is to promote conservation, research and utilization of native plants and plant habitats of Texas through education, outreach, and example.
We want all Texans to value native plants, native habitats and healthy ecosystems as essential to the well-being of living things and to our quality of life. Our vision is a future where native habitats are managed as critically beneficial natural assets, and where residential and commercial developments employ sustainable designs that preserve and promote native habitats.
Our more than 30 chapters across Texas further the mission of the Society at the community level, sponsoring educational speakers, field trips, workshops, on such subjects as plant identification, propagation and landscaping, work in demonstration gardens and many other types of projects.
