Located in Bell County, compelling evidence from the Gault site suggests occupation there occurred as much as 20,000 years ago. This is prior to the appearance of the Clovis peoples. Dr. Jon Lohse will discuss the overall work at the Gault Site and ongoing work at the Gault School of Archeological Research (GSAR) at 7:30p.m. Thursday, October 30 at the Allen Heritage Village, 450 E. St. Mary Dr.
A native Houstonian, Dr. Lohse completed his graduate degrees from The University of Texas and is the President of the board of directors of the Gault School of Archaeological Research. He has conducted multidisciplinary research in Texas and Central America, where he has developed interests in early (Archaic and Paleoindian) time periods. He has published on preceramic work in Belize, Guatemala, and Oaxaca; Mesoamerican (Maya) settlement and household archaeology and commoner studies; paleoecological reconstructions using environmental proxies; high-precision radiocarbon-based chronologies; and lithic technologies, especially early (Clovis) strategies for stone tool making and learning.
