Event description
Looking to understand your users? Attend this workshop to learn how to write, conduct, and synthesize user tests into actionable results.

About this Event

Ever get to that spot where you think you have a good design solution, but you aren't certain that it hits the mark? Or maybe your site went live, and you're wondering why signups are lower than usual?

Sounds like a great opportunity to run a user test!

User testing is a hands-on technique to learn how your current and potential customers perceive your website or application. In attending this workshop, we’ll share a lightweight framework that will provide you with the confidence and skills to begin testing your designs in no time at all.

This is an intermediate-level workshop. There will be some prep work for each attendee prior to the event, which will allow for more opportunities to practice facilitating tests and address real-time feedback during the actual workshop.

Whether you're learning the basics or a seasoned veteran, you're sure to walk away from this hands-on workshop with useful strategies to plan and design amazing digital products.

This is an intermediate-level course and some prep work will be necessary prior to the event (30 minutes or less of prep work) We’d like our attendees to come to the event with an idea of what they’d like to test and an initial test script written. Don’t worry, we’ll be providing instructions prior to the event to help get you started.

Prior to the workshop, prepare:

  1. Define what to test and how to test it: What’s the goal? What’s better: remote or in-person? Should I ask questions along the way or have the participant speak aloud? There are several variants that have strengths and weaknesses
  2. Write a test script: Learn to define the context, tasks, and follow-ups that ensure that you get the most informative results.

In the workshop, we’ll discuss:

  1. Conduct a user test: With your hypothesis and test script created, you’ll get firsthand experience facilitating a sample user test. Each attendee will gain experience moderating a user test.
  2. Refining a user test: After giving your test script a try with actual users, we’ll help you understand how to evolve it to make sure you’re getting clear, objective, actionable feedback from your users.
  3. Gather results and prioritize next steps: After your user tests are done, we’ll use a simple scoring system to help determine priorities for your team

We've designed this workshop specifically for those with a few years of experience in UX, as well as those who are just starting out.

  • Visual Designers: Looking to break into UX? This is your opportunity to get lots of experience in a short amount of time.
  • UX Researchers: Pick up a few new tricks to add to your testing toolkit.
  • Product managers: Learn to uncover the root of how and why your customers use your product.
  • Entrepreneurs: Have your million-dollar idea, and want to see if others value it as well? Users tests are a fast and effective way to validate your vision.
