DESCRIPTION: This energetic Hip Hop class will teach students about grooves and rhythms while connecting movements to the steady pace of the music. Through short choreography, students will also learn: isolation, musicality, cool footwork moves, retention and so much more! Students will also learn foundational knowledge & history of Hip Hop as a culture, the importance of connecting to the music; and overtime how to show expression through movement.
BRING: Please pack extra clean studio sneakers, wear loose clothes, bring water & face towel.
Arts Facilitator Bio: Mahogany Beal is a humble and incredibly talented mover from Chicago whose dance journey began at the age of seven with Hip Hop being her first style of exposure. She has trained with Tanji Harper at After School Matters, Columbia College (West African, Modern w/ Dadi McGinley, & Ballet). In addition, she is well trained in Jamaican Reggae/Dancehall styles with street dance veteran, Leyda Lady Sol Garcia.
After graduating from Columbia College in 2019 with a B.A. in Dance, she began teaching Hip Hop and Reggae/Dancehall throughout the city of Chicago. She has taught youth classes with After School Matters, Red Clay Dance Company, Chicago Danze Theatre and a youth summer intensive with Chicago Contemporary Dance Theatre. Mahogany is thrilled to be teaching at Kuumba Lynx Arts & Healing.
