Join us for a FREE workshop for students in grades 8-12 where they will be able to experiment and create projects using the micro::bit device. Experts from Firia Labs will be coming down from Huntsville to help students dive in to programming these pocket sized computers using Python.

What is the micro::bit?

You can watch a quick video here about the micro::bit and some of its applications. The students in the video are using a block-based language (Scratch/SNAP/Blockly) but our workshop will focus on introducing students to using Python with the micro::bit.

Why should I come to this workshop?

Number 1: IT'S FUN! No previous programming experience needed to participate. :-)

Number 2: Python is one of the most widely used programming languages and is also one of the best to start with before making the leap to JAVA or C++.

Number 3: This workshop is a great way for students participating in our TeenTechBham Hackathon in January to get to play around with the micro::bits ahead of the competition. There is still time to register a team here! Talk with your teacher about getting you and your teammates registered.

What should I bring?

If you have a laptop or chromebook, please register for a ticket that indicates that below and please bring your device and charger. Firia Labs will be bringing the micro::bits for you to use with your devices.

What if I don't have a laptop or chromebook?

It's cool--just register for a ticket that indicates you will not be bringing a laptop. This lets us know how many we will need to bring for students to use.

Light snacks will be provided.
