Event description

Description

TechBirmingham and TEALS (Technology Education and Literacy in Schools) are teaming up to host a Hackathon exclusive for high school students. Teams will compete for one day to build solutions to make our world a safer place. We will kick off the event with a brainstorming session to get the creativity flowing on Friday evening. Saturday will be an all-day hacking and building day for the teams to work on their projects.

We are only accepting 20 teams of 4 students, and each team must have an educator as a sponsor (for homeschoolers, this will be a parent). If you are a student who does not have a team, contact christina@techbirmingham.com, and we will place you on a team. The teacher does not need to be your coach, we will have professionals in the community that will be assigned to each team as a Coach. The coaches will be there to assist with technical needs, time management and for overall support for each team.

Workshops will be offered for skills help on January 12th from 12:00 to 3:00 pm, location to be determined. Kids will have an opportunity to learn how to use a microprocessor and about building simple devices that can be used for their projects.
