As the premier event for emerging tech startups in Northwest Ohio, this event dedicated to fostering the growth of regional entrepreneurs and propelling their groundbreaking ideas to new heights. Be part of a movement that empowers local innovators, drives economic growth, and shapes the future of technology in our region.

What is Tech419?

Formerly known as "Pitch & Pour," Tech419 goes beyond a traditional competition by providing hands-on coaching and a structured pitch training experience for five selected finalists. Over several weeks, participants refine their public speaking skills, strengthen their investor decks, and learn to craft compelling business narratives.

The experience culminates in a high-energy public pitch event where finalists present their ventures to a panel of judges and a live audience of investors, community leaders, and supporters. Top presenters compete for $8,500 in non-dilutive funding, but all finalists gain something more valuable—visibility, credibility, and meaningful connections that support long-term growth.

Witness the transformative power of storytelling and support the next generation of leaders at the Tech419 Pitch Competition, and together, we can create a thriving tech ecosystem in Northwest Ohio that benefits everyone.

2025 Finalists

Astromode - Dr. Youssef Sari

Astromode is developing small-molecule therapies to address alcohol and opioid addiction, as well as opioid overdose. Its novel beta-lactam compounds restore balance to brain chemistry by enhancing the GLT-1 transporter, reducing drug-seeking behaviors and mitigating overdose effects. With strong oral bioavailability and proven preclinical efficacy, these treatments offer a practical and scalable solution. By advancing this innovation, Astromode aims to save lives, lower healthcare costs, and provide new hope for individuals and communities impacted by substance use disorders.

Badger AI - Ben Saddoris

Badger AI is an AI-powered grammar and narrative tool built specifically for law enforcement. Designed with Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) awareness and no data retention, it helps officers turn rough draft reports into clear, professional, and legally sound narratives in a fraction of the time. By cutting report-writing time by 15–30%, agencies can save thousands in overtime costs, speed up case processing, and keep officers focused on public safety. Badger AI improves accuracy, consistency, and efficiency—helping departments operate more effectively while reducing administrative burden.

BG Biologics - Dr. Paul Morris

BG Biologics has developed PythiumX™, a natural microbe that directly targets Pythium, the waterborne pathogen behind devastating root rot in hydroponic farms. Infections can cut yields by 30–50%, force costly shutdowns, and have even led to greenhouse closures across the U.S. Unlike chemicals or UV systems that only provide partial control, PythiumX circulates through water systems to eliminate hidden reservoirs of the disease and protect roots from recurring infections. The result is healthier plants, more reliable production, and reduced financial risk for growers.

PlayTime Movement - Dr. Caroline Humberston

PlayTime Movement was founded to address the growing trend of serious spine and joint injuries appearing in younger populations. The company delivers a complete movement assessment and teaching system built around secure, AI-powered software that evaluates and scores movement quality with precision. Paired with standardized educational workbooks for instructors and participants, the platform ensures consistent, data-driven instruction that can be scaled across communities. By combining advanced technology with practical training tools, PlayTime Movement provides a powerful solution for preventing injuries and supporting lifelong orthopedic health.

VisioCell - Dr. Aniruddha Ray

VisioCell is transforming microscopy with a handheld device that delivers lab-grade imaging at a fraction of the cost. Combining fluorescence and bright-field capabilities, it achieves sub-micron resolution and picomolar sensitivity across a wide field of view—all in a compact, affordable design. Unlike bulky, high-cost benchtop systems, VisioCell enables on-site diagnostics, environmental monitoring, and accelerated research by making powerful imaging accessible anywhere. From detecting blood disorders and pathogens to monitoring water quality and microplastics, VisioCell opens the door to faster, more reliable insights in both clinical and research settings.
