Everything You've Always Wanted to Know About Residencies (but didn't know who to ask)

TEAL’s March Lunch and Learn focuses on Residencies!

Enjoy lunch with other arts leaders from across the Triangle during a panel discussion about artist residencies from differing perspectives - artists who’ve done them and local programs that offer them.

Topics will include:

  • What types of artist residencies are out there?
  • Where does one find out about them?
  • What do applicants need to know/do when applying for a residency?
  • What impact do they have on one’s practice/work?
  • Do the programs impact the surrounding community?
  • What do panelists wish they knew when they started?
  • What does one do at a residency?
  • Studio space versus live-in space? What expenses are there? What is covered?
  • What does it take for an organization to set up a residency?

Panelists:

Artists:
William Paul Thomas (visual artist)
Alice Osborn (writer and musician)

Residency programs:
Frank Konhaus - Photographer. Co-director of Cassilhaus, a home-based multidiscipline arts venue and artist residency program and recently completed a  5 month sabbatical touring residency & community arts programs around the US.

Annah Lee - Director of Artistic Programs, Artspace

Brian Valentyn, Ph'd - Duke Performances, Campus & Community Initiatives

Triangle ArtWorks

Triangle ArtWorks mission is to provide the services, support and resources necessary to cultivate and ensure a vibrant creative community in the Triangle region of North Carolina. Triangle ArtWorks is based on the belief that a vibrant creative region is one in which creative people are not only appreciated for their work, but paid for their work and considered a valid, important economic segment. Triangle ArtWorks is making it easier to find the connections, education, promotion, and other resources and support that the creative community in this disconnected region needs to not just survive, but thrive. This is a new, business-centric way of supporting the visual and performing arts and creative industries. Making the arts community stronger and more financially sustainable, makes the Triangle a better place to live and work.  Find out more about Triangle ArtWorks here.
