Helping Our Students Develop a Growth Mindset

Stanford professor Dr. Carol Dweck coined the terms “fixed mindset” and “growth mindset” to describe the underlying beliefs people have about learning and intelligence. As a tutor, you are in a position to help your students develop a “growth mindset,” which will lead them to be them to be more effective and successful in their academic work. Come learn about these exciting new developments in learning science and practice techniques to help your students succeed.

Working With Students in Distress

As tutors you will likely see students who are struggling with emotional or physical concerns, and you want to help them when they are in distress, but sometimes struggle with right words and best approaches. The workshop is designed to provide language and practical skills to help tutors navigate challenging interactions. The “Working with Students in Distress Workshop” provides the signs of what distress looks like, ideas of what to do and what not to do, and simple language to assist with having the confidence to act when a student is struggling.
