Overview

TBI 101 provides a basic understanding of brain injury, its symptoms, and available supports and resources.

Counselors, GenEd Teachers, SPED teachers, Related service Personnel, Administrators, Support Staff, Behavioral Health Professionals, Community-based Professionals or anyone who works with youth and young adults is invited. This training is also geared towards parents and caregivers.

This virtual workshop, facilitated by Dr. Sue Wolf, will include basic information on acquired brain injuries including types, incidence, prevalence, and leading causes. Based on an understanding of brain-behavior relationships, we will review signs and symptoms of brain injury and discuss impacts in the classroom and community. Through a student's injury scenario, the focus will be on how to identify assets/deficits due to injury and discuss appropriate academic strategies to support the student in the classroom and in the community.

THIS 4-hour ABRIDGED VERSION of our full-day TBI 101 will include an adult education format offering a presentation, dialogue, small/large group discussions, and Q&A throughout. You are expected to participate in discussions and respond to polls.

All materials are provided for this course including PPT handouts, activity sheets, and resources.

A total of 4 contact hours for professional development/continuing education units.

IMPORTANT: Please note that we will pause the training halfway through for a short 15-minute break and allow time after training for additional participant questions and case reviews.

Please note this VIRTUAL training has a focus on the Arizona educational system due to the funding source.
