The tangled threads of the linen industry in Dunfermline are tied up with the lives of the people who worked there. From the flax dresser at the start of the process to the weaver, the pattern designer, the bleacher and the manufacturer who produced the finest linens, there is so much to learn about this complicated business. Come and hear the stories of life and work, luck and death as we walk through the Abbey churchyard and see the gravestones of 7 Dunfermline men who dedicated their lives to linen.

Each tour will take around an hour. Please dress for the weather as this event will go ahead, rain or shine. Suitable for ages12 and over.

Frequently asked questions

What if I can’t afford a ticket?

Please contact us on tombstonesandtales@gmail.com and we will get back to you asap.

Can I pay on the day?

Yes - but we need to know what timeslot you will be coming. Please send us an email to tombstonesandtales@gmail.com and we will get back to you ASAP.

Why are you suggesting only children over 12 should attend?

In our experience, it can get a bit boring for younger children as there are lots of stories but not much action. If you think your younger children will be happy to come along then by all means bring them.
