About this event

Arts • Fine Art

Tamara de Lempicka, best known for her polished Art Deco portraits of aristocrats and the wealthy, and for her highly stylized paintings of nudes, was an active participant in the artistic and social life of Paris between the two world wars. Nicknamed “The Baroness with a Brush,” she became known for her self-portraits and paintings of women who embraced a liberated, hedonistic lifestyle in the 1920s. She was a complex artist whose complicated life was reflected in her portraits that blended Cubist principles with Art Deco aesthetics to capture the glamour and sexuality of the era. Through an examination of some of her most iconic portraits and a look at her unconventional lifestyle, we'll paint a more complete picture of the artist beyond her popular, polished style.
