Week 1: Foundational Communication Skills
April 24, 2025 | 4 pm - 6 pm
Join a licensed speech-language pathologist from Little Voices Speech and Language Therapy as we target the foundational communication skills of imitation and gesturing during a variety of activities, such as, play, songs, and snack time! Not only will these communication skills be targeted throughout the engaging 45-minute class, but each Talking Tots class focuses on empowering parents by adding strategies to your toolbox, so that you can target these skills at home during your daily routines.
Week 2: The Language Development Strategy of Language Routines
May 1, 2025 | 4 pm - 6 pm
In this week’s speech and language development class, led by Little Voices Speech and Language Therapy, we will focus on the language development strategy of language routines. We know children learn through play and repetition, so why not combine these
two to model and elicit language? We can use this strategy to target a variety of language functions and vocabulary. Our licensed speech-language pathologist will teach you how to do just that AND incorporate language routines into your everyday life to facilitate continued language growth and development in your toddler.
Week 3: How to Use Choices and Communication Temptations to Create Moments of Modeling
May 8, 2025 | 4 pm - 6 pm
In our third Talking Tots session, a licensed speech-language pathologist will teach you how to use choices and communication temptations to create moments of modeling and language elicitation during play and your daily routines. Giving your toddler choices, not only increases autonomy and decreases frustration, but also provides salient language models during shared play and routines. In addition to learning how to use choices to build your child’s vocabulary, you will also learn how to use and create situations in your daily routines that provide opportunities for your child to communicate with you!
Week 4: Types of play: Social Games, Active Play, and Pretend Play
May 15, 2025 | 4 pm - 6 pm
Did you know there are many different types of play? Join us this week as a speech-language pathologist from Little Voices Speech and Language Therapy teaches you about three different types of play; social games, active play, and pretend play. You and your child will engage in these different types of play and you will walk away with strategies you can use during each one to facilitate continued language development.
Week 5: Language and Developmental Benefits of Book Sharing
May 22, 2025 | 4 pm - 6 pm
Books, books, and more books! Join our licensed speech-language pathologist to learn about all of the language and developmental benefits of book sharing with your toddler. In
addition to learning WHY reading books with your toddler is so important, you will also learn HOW to do this to target many of the speech and language skills we have discussed in previous sessions, such as, imitation, building vocabulary, gestures, and much more!
Week 6: The Critical Strategy to Help Encourage Continued Language Development
May 29, 2025 | 4 pm - 6 pm
In our last session of the Talking Tots series our licensed speech-language pathologist will teach you a critical strategy to help encourage continued language development in your toddler: expansion. Learn how to expand on what you toddler says to model the next level of language development. This week, we will not only target commenting and requesting, but also how to help your child learn how to answer questions correctly. As always, we will target these skills and teach new strategies during play, songs, and finish our session with a snack!
