Hike about 5 miles at a modest pace over the rough, rocky (and often muddy) Lenape Trail through the southern half of the reservation along the west side of the First Watchung Mountain, returning to the starting point along the West Branch of the Rahway River. Focus on the river’s ecology, its role in the drinking water supply, and proposals for modification of the reservoir for flood damage reduction. Hiking poles are recommended. Children are welcome at your discretion. No dogs, please.
Steady rain or snowy roads cancel.
