Tai Chi Easy for Beginners - Free Community Classes with Rev Shelley Dungan

in person, The Picnic Grove @ Glen Park, Portsmouth or on Zoom

Simple Flowing Movements & Meditative Stillness to Awaken Vitality, Inner Calm, and the Healer Within

This gentle, nature-based wellness class is designed for anyone curious about Tai Chi, especially fitting for those new to movement practices or looking for a nourishing, low-impact way to care for body and mind.

We’ll explore easy, flowing movements drawn from traditional Tai Chi and Qigong, along with moments of meditative stillness, breath awareness, and deep connection to the natural world around us. Each session is an invitation to slow down, tune in, and restore your energy from within.

Whether you’re seeking more balance, clarity, vitality, healing or simply a peaceful hour indoors or outdoors, this practice welcomes all ages and all bodies. No special equipment needed—just wear comfortable clothing and footwear. Some enjoy this practice barefoot. If you would like to practice sitting down instead of standing, have handy a stool or armless chair of some sort.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get the Zoom link?

Once you register for the class through Eventbrite, Eventbrite should email you the link at least 10 minutes before class. If you do not get the link or have trouble, text me right away and I will text you the direct link from my phone. 860-965-9995

What time should I log into Zoom?

Please log in sometime between 7:45-7:50. That way Zoomers can be welcomed and then those attending in person can be warmly greeted.

Where do you suggest I set myself up for class?

If you have access to a quiet outdoor space where you can see the computer screen, that might be wonderful. Otherwise anywhere that you will not be disturbed.

Do I have the choice to stand or sit, or a little of both?

You most certainly can participate in this practice standing, like most of us do in person, or sitting on an armless chair or stool. You can do some of both! If you decide to sit, you will just modify and use your arms not legs.

Do I need to have any experience with Tai Chi or similar practices?

No experience needed. This is specifically a beginner-friendly class. The instructions will be simple and clear. You can expect to finish class feeling refreshed, more flexible and centered and ready for a great day!
