Artists Vanessa Calvert and Chelsea Moss both work in small-scale sculpture that invites the viewer to imagine the tactile sensation of their objects through visual enjoyment. Both artists will be in attendance for the parking lot opening on October 10th 5pm to 7pm. Masks will be required and two attendees will allowed inside the gallery at a time. Vanessa Calvert is a mixed media artist often using fiber and found materials to explore the boundaries between stasis and motion, stability and fragility, holding and binding. Chelsea Moss explores the idea of nature as “the other” and our displacement of it in collections in our personal spaces. Sixteenth century curiosity cabinets were part of this transformation of nature into the spectacle. The sculptures act as souvenirs from fantastical landscapes they may have originated from. A glimpse of an unrealistic world urging the viewer to long for the place of origin. Acting as mementos, they help to collapse the space between now and distant imaginative continents.
