Join a diverse community of poets and storytellers for Swing Set Open Mic. We're an affirming, inclusive space to share your poetry, music, storytelling, or any art you want to bring to the mic.
Swing Set is happily collaborating with Long Beach Forward and their mission to tackle institutional issues of racial and income inequities in collaboration with Long Beach residents and coalition partners.
LOCATION: Long Beach Forward
2217 E 6th St, Long Beach, CA 90814
Long Beach Forward is on the lower level of the Youth Movement and Education Center (YMEC), a tan colored, three-story ADA accessible office building located on a residential street at 2217 E 6th St. Long Beach, CA 90814. Parking is limited and we encourage walking, biking, public transportation, and carpooling. LBF's entrance is located on the western side of the building down a double ramp (follow the LBF signage for directions). There is one small doorway threshold to enter the building. Two gender neutral restrooms are located on the lower level.
TIME: 7:00 p.m.
Event starts at 7 p.m. Doors open early at 6:30 for sign-ups. Join our pre-mic kickback sesh!
PUBLIC TRANSIT: The YMEC is accessible by Long Beach Transit routes 20’s, 90’s, and 151. Biking is encouraged, as well. Feel free to bring your bike inside the lobby for safekeeping.
PARKING: Free parking is available in LBF’s satellite parking lot (enter at 621 Dawson Ave) located a short block away as well as on the street. Please do not park in the lot adjacent to our office building as it does not belong to us.
- All parking spots at 621 Dawson are available for LBF guests EXCEPT SPOTS NUMBERED 1-4 which are reserved.
- Guest permits must be issued to all event attendees parking in the satellite lot (permits will be provided on the day of).
SIGN-UP INFO: Sign-ups to share your work on stage start at 6:00 on the day of, first come first serve. Simply write your name on our sign-up sheet! We recommend arriving early to reserve your spot.
CHECK-IN: RSVP checks at the door
Sign in at the front desk and check in with the name on your ticket.
MASK POLICY: Masks are REQUIRED at this event to help protect the community against COVID, the flu, and other illnesses. Free face masks are available in the lobby courtesy of LBF and Maskbloc Long Beach. Thank you for helping keep us safe!
