SWAN SONG: A Tribute To Udo Keir
Overview
The evening begins at 5:00 PM with a curated pre-show celebrating Udo’s extraordinary life and artistic journey. Through film clips, archival moments, and personal highlights, the pre-show traces the many eras, genres, and personas that made Udo Kier a true original.
At 6:00 PM, the program continues with live remarks and dedications from friends, collaborators, and admirers who knew Udo and were shaped by his work. These reflections lead directly into the screening of Swan Song (2021)—a tender, funny, and deeply moving late-career masterpiece that serves as a fitting farewell to an artist who spent decades redefining what it meant to live boldly on screen.
ABOUT UDO KIER
Born in Germany during World War II, Udo Kier (1944–2024) built one of the most eclectic and enduring careers in modern cinema. From European art films to Hollywood genre classics, from underground provocateur to cult icon, Udo moved effortlessly between worlds—never losing his edge, humor, or humanity.
He was a frequent collaborator of visionary directors including Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Andy Warhol, Lars von Trier, Gus Van Sant, Dario Argento, and John Waters, appearing in films such as Flesh for Frankenstein, Suspiria, Blade, Breaking the Waves, Melancholia, and My Own Private Idaho.
In Swan Song, Udo delivers one of his most personal performances—a former hairdresser rediscovering dignity, memory, and self-worth. The role mirrors much of what made Udo beloved: wit, vulnerability, defiance, and an unshakeable sense of self.
Udo Kier didn’t just play outsiders—he gave them grace, glamour, and soul. His legacy lives on in every performance that refuses to apologize for being different.
