    Frequently asked questions

What gear is provided to participants?

Participants can borrow a clam shovel + clam bag from WEBS during this workshop. Any supplies borrowed by participants will be checked-out during registration on the shore. Participants are responsible for carrying gear out and back to the flats. Gear will be checked back in upon return to the shore

    What supplies should participants bring?

It is recommended that participants wear waders or well-fitting boots, waterproof is ideal. If you don't have your own waders or boots, wearing old shoes that fit you properly is better than borrowing gear from someone else that does not fit correctly. We also recommend bring a reusable water bottle

Do participants need a shellfish lisence?

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Everyone 12 years and older needs a license to harvest shellfish. Licenses are available for a day or a full-year and can be purchased online (https://odfw.huntfishoregon.com/login). For more information visit https://myodfw.com/articles/oregon-shellfish-regulations

What is the cost of a shellfish license?

Annual Shellfish licenses: Resident* $10.00; *Resident is defined as a person who has resided in Oregon at least six months immediately prior to applying for a license, tag or permit. Nonresident $28.00

Will participants leave the workshop with clams?

Yes- if you dig them, you keep them- so only dig what you want to clean, prep, + eat. Most participants who want to harvest clams are able to successfully dig bay clams. The daily limit per person is 20 clams (butter, littleneck, gaper and cockle). Of this 20 total bay clams, only 12 may be gapers.
