Please join us on Thursday, November 16, 2023 in the Great Hall at 2800 North Charles St. (second floor) for a panel discussion to address climate change and sustainability through an educational lens. In moderating the discussion, the SOE's Dr. Jennifer Adams will guide the panelists to help us think about the wide array of ways that education can bolster sustainability initiatives at multiple levels—from within the SOE and Hopkins, to our local area, to our potential for global impact. Panelists will include:

o Lindi Shepard: School of Education PhD student and former teacher. She is program manager of Words in the Wild, a non-profit that blends literacy instruction and environmental education.

o Julian Goresko: The Director of Sustainability at Johns Hopkins University.

o John Erickson: The founder of Erickson Senior Living and a member of the School of Education's National Advisory Council. Erickson's foundation developed the NorthBay Adventure camp in Elk Neck, MD on the Chesapeake Bay, focused on transforming students' lives through teaching and experiencing environmental science.

o Christina Kwauk: Research director at Unbounded Associates. She is co-editor of Curriculum and Learning for Climate Action: Toward an SDG 4.7 Roadmap for Systems Change and has published numerous policy papers, including “The new green learning agenda: Approaches to quality education for climate empowerment.”

Building on the release of Hopkins' draft Climate Action & Sustainability Plan, we will look forward to an inspired discussion of our most promising strategies to mitigate climate challenges through education. Faculty, staff, and students are all welcome.
