Description

Crisis happens. Any number of events can trigger reactions that are linked with past traumatic experiences, causing people to act in ways that can seem frustrating, or even frightening, to those around them.

Supportive Crisis Response teaches effective responses to the crises of community members, staff, or visitors to your organization. Due to the unpredictable nature of a crisis, it is vital that direct service staff stay calm and proceed with intention. Supportive Crisis Response is a 3-hour or 4-hour training that focuses on our perception of crisis and outlines practices that support turning a “crisis” situation into an information exchange where effective action can be taken to support the person’s needs. Participants will learn compassionate, humane, and effective methods of addressing anger, fear, grief, etc., while minimizing the need to involve law enforcement.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the wisdom that’s already in the room and share examples from our own experience
  • Understand crisis, distress, and our responses to them
  • Reduce involvement of law enforcement
  • Improve outcomes for all parties affected by crisis and distress
