About this event

Navigating the emotional complexities of a distant or estranged relationship with your mother can be profoundly painful. This peer support group is a safe, compassionate space for those who have experienced the heartache and inner conflict of creating boundaries or distancing themselves from their mothers.

In many families, dynamics can be fraught with unmet needs, unresolved conflicts, or toxic patterns, leaving children—no matter their age—feeling torn between self-protection and societal expectations of closeness to their parents. The decision to distance oneself from a parent, especially a mother, can come with deep feelings of guilt, grief, and loss. These emotions can be isolating and difficult to navigate alone.

Engaging in this peer support group offers the opportunity to connect with others who share similar experiences, reducing the sense of loneliness and shame that often accompanies this journey. Through shared stories, mutual understanding, and collective healing, participants can find validation and comfort in knowing they are not alone. Together, we explore the balance between honoring personal boundaries and processing the sadness of a strained mother-child relationship, fostering resilience, self-compassion, and emotional growth.

This group is for adults 18 and up.

Pillars of Light and Love is a non-profit founded in 2014 by Kathy Opperman which is focused on Stress and Life Management ages 5 to adult. Our goal is to educate youth and adults to reduce stress, strengthen self-esteem, overcome anxiety, build confidence, achieve effective coping, positive communication skills, resilience and healthy relationships. We expanded our mission to include programs for those with special needs in 2023 by opening the So Much to Give Inclusive Cafe and the So Much to Give Inspiration Studio.
