About this event
- Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes
Join Indiana Audubon for an evening of birds, city views, and swirling chimney swifts during this special urban birding event in downtown Indianapolis. We'll gather at the Rooftop Garden in Fountain Square to witness one of nature's most underrated aerial ballets as hundreds (sometimes thousands) of Chimney Swifts spiral into their roost at sunset.
Hosted by author and naturalist Wes Homoya, this is a "Big Sit"-style birding hangout, laid back, highly watchable, and perfect for birders of all levels. We'll also talk urban bird behavior, swift conservation, and maybe even catch a Peregrine Falcon grabbing a to-go pigeon dinner.
We will meet on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 7:30 p.m. ET at the Rooftop Garden in Fountain Square, Indianapolis. Sunset roosting begins shortly after, and full event details with parking info will be emailed to all registrants.
Peregrine Print Drawing
As a celebration of birds this fall, all attendees are automatically entered to win a limited-edition woodblock print of a Peregrine Falcon in Indianapolis, created by artist Matt Rees (valued at $200). Want extra chances to win? Buy raffle tickets (link coming soon). The winner will be drawn on Sept. 22.
Registration
Registration is required and limited to 20 participants. Event tickets are $5 for Indiana Audubon members and $10 per person for non-members, plus applicable Eventbrite processing fees.
If you use Apple's "Hide My Email" feature, forwarding may stop after 30 days, which can block event correspondence. Use a regular email to make sure you receive all event info. We do not add you to our mailing list unless you opt in during registration.
Accessibility
The Fountain Square Theatre Building's Rooftop Garden is accessible via elevator, though it is older and may operate slowly. Seating will be available for participants. There is no dedicated ADA parking lot, but street parking is available nearby, and curbside drop-off at the main entrance is a good option for those with mobility needs.
If you require accommodations to participate, please contact us as early as possible. While we may not be able to meet every request, we will make every reasonable effort to do so.
