How many songs do I get to sing?

Accepted Answer

Typically, each vocalist can sing two songs. Occasionally we run out of time but we do our best to give each person as much time as possible.

Question 2

Can I come to just watch?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely! Many people drop by just to enjoy listening. If you change your mind, you can put your name down in the sign-in sheet. But remember, we ask everybody to sign in for participation early on, ideally before 9:30-9:45pm, if you want to be guaranteed a spot.

Question 3

What type of songs can I sing?

Accepted Answer

Mainly jazz standards. That's where the trio excels. Occasionally we could do other songs like R&B, pop, musical songs etc. if the trio knows them. If you bring clear and legible lead sheet (3 copies) transposed to your key, that's ideal. Songs found on iReal app will be great, too (see below).

Question 4

How do I prepare for the jam?

We encourage everyone to download and practice with the iReal Pro App, with which you can find the perfect key, tempo and feel for any given song. You can print out chord charts to give to the musicians, also. It's not too expensive, and it's a very worthwhile investment.

But I feel intimated...?

Accepted Answer

I hear you. You can choose to sit and listen until you feel comfortable. Talking to other participants and "regulars" can be inspiring and reassuring. The atmosphere is supportive. They'll share helpful tips with you.  We are all in the journey of bettering ourselves in this art together :)
