Sunday 11/16 | More Than a Story Workshop
Overview
More Than a Story invites you to come write with us. In a society that continues to provide opportunities and platforms to perpetrators of discriminatory and often violent cultures, survivors are frequently silenced, dismissed, and ignored. In this workshop, you’ll write a personal narrative based on prompts designed to help you look inward and explore your past, present or future. We seek to lift survivors up, to provide them an opportunity to tell whatever stories are important to them, recognizing that they are more than any one of their identities, that they are more than a statistic, and that they are more than their trauma.
Note about content: Our goal is to help you write whatever story it is that you want to put out into the world. That means that you will not be asked explicitly about your trauma, nor should you expect that all of the stories you will hear from other participants will be about their trauma.
You can expect:
- Open-ended prompts to inspire storytelling.
- Time to write on provided prompts or continue something you are already working on.
- Games to foster comfort and trust.
- A credentialed victim advocate to help guide the space
- If wanted, to share your writing with the group.
We will collaborate on community agreements at the beginning of the session. Your safety is the number one priority.
We ask that you be 18+ to participate .
The workshop is facilitated by Lauren Weingarten and was developed in part with Andi Sauer.
