Join Suncoast CISMA to learn to identify native & invasive grass species within the Tampa Bay Area, and how to tell the difference between the two to help you in your invasive species management goals. Network with like-minded individuals, & get the newest & latest information on how to control invasive grasses. Two workshops are being offered. Participants can only register for one of the workshop events. Workshops are FREE. Approved FDACS CEUs: 1 Core, 2 Natural Areas.
What to Bring: Come prepared to traipse around in the woods! Bring your own lunch; snacks will be provided. Wear close-toed shoes or boots, long-sleeved shirt, a hat and sunglasses. Bring your sunscreen, hand lens, grass ID references, and water bottle – we will have coolers and water fill stations for fill-ups.

Session 1 – 9:05 AM – 10:15 AM
(Myakka) - Chris Matson – basic grass anatomy and ID
(Boyd & Myakka) - Liz Gandy - basic grass anatomy and ID
Mini-Garden of Evil Display - Mike
Session 2 – 10:30 AM – 11:45 AM
Invasive Grass Treatments frequency and methods– Mike Sowinski - Methods, treatment frequencies, interval between treatments, seasonality of treatments, herbicide mixes and rotations, other promising application techniques.
11:30 AM – 12:00 LUNCH – Participants must bring their own lunch. We will eat lunch before departing for field.
12:00 – 3:00 PM – Field
Afternoon – Field Grass Identification
1) Break up into 2-3 teams with lead instructors – (2 teams at Myakka; 3 at Boyd)
2) Myakka Breakout Teams - 1 team local around classroom area, 1 team on tram, then switch out.
3) Boyd Hill – Smaller area with pedestrian access.
