  APPLYING THE QUALITY MATTER RUBRIC,

5TH EDITION

ONLINE CERTIFICATION WORKSHOP

This workshop certifies faculty in applying the Quality Matters Rubric to the design of their distance education course(s).

  • Course Length:  Two weeks [6/6-20/2018]
  • Delivery Mode:  Online (Asynchronous)
  • Instruction: Facilitated by Prof. Andrew Monahan
  • Fee: $25 per registrant, paid for by Suffolk County Community College

QM's flagship workshop on the QM Rubric and its use in reviewing the design of online and blended courses is intended for a broad audience, including but not limited to faculty, instructional designers, administrators, and adjunct instructors. It is particularly helpful to those new to QM.

Recommended for:

  • Suffolk County Community College Online Faculty Members
  • Those looking to understand the QM Rubric and online course review process. 
  • Those who wish to complete the Higher Ed Peer Reviewer Course.
  • Learning Objectives

After completing this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the underlying principles of QM.
  2. Identify the critical elements of the QM quality assurance program, including the QM Rubric, materials, processes, and administrative components.
  3. Apply the QM Rubric to review online courses.
  4. Make decisions on whether the sample course meets selected QM Rubric Standards.
  5. Apply the concept of alignment.
  6. Draft helpful recommendations for course improvement by citing annotations from the QM Rubric and evidence from the course.
  1. Meet the prerequisite for the Peer Reviewer Course, which is the required course to become a QM Peer Reviewer.

Prerequisites:

  • None

Participants Requirements:

  • Must be a Faculty Member of Suffolk County Community College
  • Must have 7-8 hours per week to work on QM assignments

  • Apply the rubric to your course, request a QM certified course review. When you meet the standards, you will be identified on the QM Certified Course Website.

  • Adjunct teacher locally? This certification will make a nice addition to your resume (Stonybrook, Nassau, St. Joe’s… are all QM campuses).
  • Once certified in Applying the QM Rubric, you are qualified to attend the Peer Reviewer certification workshop. Your next step in becoming a QM peer reviewer. This is an international position.
